For my final week at the Truman Presidential Library and Museum I spent the majority of my time scanning more Lincoln Coins like I mentioned during my last reflections. I completed scanning and TMS Re-Entrying two more boxes that contained approximately fifty to seventy-five coins a piece. Needless to say, the Museum has a lot of these coins. When I left on Thursday, there were still six more boxes that no one had begun scanning. As a personal highlight of the internship, on Tuesday, I was able to oil an authentic 13th-century Japanese wakizashi (Samurai short sword) that was crafted by the legendary Japanese swordsman Masamune. It is perhaps the most precious artifact that the Truman Museum holds as there are only about a dozen of Masamune swords left in the world. On Thursday, I finished my last box of Lincoln Coins, was given an exit interview after lunch and then left the building. Besides its historical rarity, oiling the wakizashi was an incredibly unique experience for me that I will likely never be able to duplicate. The Museum had an authentic sword kit that was donated to the Museum from a modern day Japanese …show more content…
Some new coins included a memorial service coin that was given twenty years after his death. From my modern perspective, it seemed weird that people in 1865, would essentially be awarded a fancy coin for attending a memorial service for a dead President. In addition, I also found my personal favorite campaign slogan on an 1865 campaign coin that I somehow never saw in the last few weeks. It reads “no cents for slavery, millions for freedom.” I did find the coins that were printed after his death to be interesting as well. Some, as if knowing how modern folk perceive Lincoln today, said something of the lines of “An equal to Washington was tragically lost today April 15,

The St Louis City Museum has been described as a giant playground, and with good reason. In fact, entering there might give you a pleasant surprise; unlike other museums that are dry and boring, it features fun and quirky exhibits. Recycled items can be found side by side with giant slides, the insides of planes, and even a pipe organ. If these aren't enough to convince you to book in one of the hotels and vacation rentals near St Louis City Museum, maybe the neighborhood will, as there are also attractions nearby. For instance, you can catch a show at the Peabody Opera House or a game at the Busch Stadium.…

Seward recalled that Lincoln gave a “ramblin, storytelling speech, putting the audience in good humor, but avoiding any extended discussion of the slavery question.” But, the other way around Lincoln was very impressed by Seward’s serious speech on the same issue (Seward n.d). Seward and Lincoln were obviously not alike in size, but they did have many similarities. They both shared the natural self-confidence in their own abilities, always assumed the best in others, and never let their personal feelings stand in the way when necessity called. Another similarity is they bother underwent a period of severe depression due to financial trouble, debt up to $200,000 (Seward n.d).…

His legacy is why the United States deviated from the coinage tradition in 1909 and made him the first real historical figure on a coin (Source F). Lincoln’s legacy is another reason why the penny should not be abolished; it needs to remain ever present in the publics’ lives as a testament to his service. Without Lincoln’s actions as president the United States might have turned out to be radically different in terms of equality and slavery. He held up a doctrine that faces many people today: all men are created equal. Through the current racial strife and multiple other issues the penny cannot be abolished because it serves as a hallmark of equality.…

Maxwell’s Museum of Anthropology was a rather interesting museum that holds plenty of material culture backed by really interesting information. I recently had the opportunity to visit Maxwell’s Museum of Anthropology on November 26, 2016 and it was quite the wonderful and informative experience. Maxwell’s Museum of Anthropology holds rather interesting material culture, such as preserves from archaeological sites as well as artifacts that primitive individuals had used to hunt and gather as well as to cultivate their land. One of the most interesting portions of the museum had to have been the ancient preserves as well as the realistic excavation site. Additionally, the anatomies of primitive species had really interesting and quite creative…

It was truly amazing to see visual arts and science come together because that has always been something I have had interest in. The replica of the painting was very easy to see, and it allowed me to observe details I had neglected to notice before. It is amazing to see modern day technology helping us to discover all the hidden details in the huge world of art. This helped me realized that art correlates with everything, and that art isn’t all about what is on the canvas; it is about the history along with present and future.…
