The use of the Chorus
The Chorus functions more as the symphony in the opera, they need to grab your attention to the problems that are presenting in the story. Specially during at some of the debate sequences of the story, the chorus becomes more kind of like a mediator, jury, or sometimes it can be interpreted as a witness. Most of the choruses are made up of city elders who express their opinions of the current events that they witnessed or are witnessing. Sophocles used this group of city elders or (Thebans) to give us an idea of the story’s action and to tell us what its going to happen in future events. Sophocles uses the chorus at the beginning of the story in Oedipus the King to tell the audience the exact circumstances of the story. In this story we can see that its all about the terrible plague that was devastating on Thebes. In this part of the story, Sophocles is trying describe the devastation in such a grossness detail, then Sophocles introduces, his protagonist Oedipus. Then the people of Thebes are in serious trouble because of the plague but at the same time Oedipus has to figure out who killed Laius the king of Thebes, or he won't have anything left to …show more content…
In this group of corinthian women they mostly just hang out, this women only lament the terrible scenes that are going down in earth. But the only time that we appreciate them actually try and do something is at the beginning of the story when they attempt to pick up Medea from her melancholy.
