Social imagination attempts to differentiate between personal troubles and public issues. My personal troubles would be what I experience in my daily life in the immediate environment. For example, I am mandated to work overtime at work due to short staffing. This personal trouble becomes a public issue when the nursing shortage affects not only the nurses nationwide, but also the public (health consumers) who receive care from the nurses. Social imagination trains people to think outside the box.
