The dynamics seem complicated, and to a normal standby person they are. In the real world, you rarely think about who you can and can’t stand next to, or who you can ask for help from. In some cases it’s true that you have to make and educated judgment about what kind of people are okay to associate with, but it’s only a true and technical “racist” that bases those sole judgments on skin color alone.
