In the Novel the Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini, one of the main characters, Hassan, was a Hazara. Hassans family worked for a Pashtun family, Amir and Baba. Hassan and Amir were best friends even with the class difference. In Afghan culture class is everything, This is shown right from the beginning when amir is reading a book and it says “the Pashtuns had persecuted and oppressed the Hazaras.” (Hosseini 9) this shows that the Hazaras have always Oppressed. Oppression from the Talibs hit basically anybody who was not in there group. The Talibs left no survivors when they Massacre in Mazar-e Sharif in 1998. This was a genocide of all and any Hazaras. This led to a massive flee to different countries leaving the Talibs in complete control. The ruthlessness of the Talibs reign was felt by all of the social groups, but in men, were more targeted towards the hazaras.
