Ramirez’s lecture. There was calmness in his voice and he was very thorough in explaining what, when, how, and where about the Hansen’s disease. I was totally unaware of this disease. However, it would have been nice if I was able to see Mr. Ramirez’s recent picture. I wanted to see how the “miracle drug” helped him recover from this devastating disease. I was unable to get a hold of Triumph at Carville DVD so I watched Secret People instead. I don’t know if the voices of the patients in the movie were their original voices or not, but the voices were very distracting. Sometimes I had trouble understanding what they were saying so I had to replay it multiple times. Although bioethics principle was violated, separating individuals with Hansen’s disease from the mass population was a necessary step. This disease was never seen before and it was obvious for the mass to get paralyzed. See people fail to realize that patients loved ones deserted them. A daughter wanted to see her father before she lost her eyesight. She kept sending mails to her sisters and begging to see her father. What did she get? Nothing! Many patients like her were treated with respect at Carville. An effort was made to find a drug to cure Hansen’s disease. “Miracle Drugs” were found! Many mentioned on the discussion board that it was unethical to not give informed consent to the patients. There was no cure!!! People in desperation will try anything!! Patients lined up
