Should Cigarette smoking be banned? “Cigarette Smoking is the leading and most preventable cause of death in the United States. Cigarette smoking causes more than 480,000 deaths each year in the United States. This is about one in five deaths.” (CDC) Cigarette smoking can be very harmful to you and everyone around you. The effects of cigarette smoking are so awful, that there really is no reason it should be legal for anyone. Some people say it shouldn’t be legal. Maybe for the reasons that it’s a personal freedom versus public health issue or since smoking is very addictive and people become dependent on it. This addictive habit is not only expensive, it also causes other costs to rise, such as insurance premiums, and health care costs. Cigarette smoking is also harmful for the environment. Smoking tobacco endangers our surroundings, as smokers continue to smoke cigarettes, our atmosphere continues to tarnish. Tobacco companies use a vast amount of trees for packaging, tobacco products, no wonder our forests are disappearing. Tobacco not only pollutes the air, it also affects the ground and our bodies of water. Cigarette butts that are just simply thrown out of a car window or stepped on then tossed aside, usually end up in nearby rivers, lakes, and other bodies of water. If cigarettes have about 4000 chemicals, imagine what a cigarette soaked in water does to our fish. If people who smoke Tobacco Cigarettes want to harm their bodies, then that’s one thing, but what about…
