Martin Luther King Jr. healed the Negro Community for years, but the “ I Have a Dream” speech was the more effective healing. August 28, 1963 about 250,000 blacks and whites marched Washington D.C. supporting this call to attention march. His speech gave more attention towards the Civil Rights Movement, and gave honor to President Abraham Lincoln for issuing the Emancipation Proclamation. The “ I Have a Dream “ speech also pushed congress to pass the Civil Rights Act sooner, and gave a worldwide message about non-violence. The speech allowed African Americans to have the freedom and equal rights they have never experienced before. On the other hand, W.E.B. Du Bois wrote The Souls of Black Folk to give strength and patience to African Americans that is getting harsh treatment because of color. It was known that Washington was pleading blacks to give up rights from education to political rights. In his book it was made clear that black folks cannot give up when their roads have obstacles and bumps or when it is clear of any distractions. It was also stated that race discrimination is hate, and get an education no matter of color. A black man deserves what a white man has. According to Patrick Comstock, Columbia University, The Souls of Black Folk continues to influence black studies and world history.
