In the book Frankenstein by Mary Shelly, she tells a story about a man named Victor with a vision for scientific greatness. Victor wants to create human life and play the role of God by creating a beautiful man from electricity. The problem within the book is the moral standing behind Victor’s creation. There is questions as to whether it is right in the eyes of God or if it even has a soul, or if it is just an empty shell of a man with no reason. After Victor created the monster, the monster roamed the city he was created in alone. He was left to wonder where he came from, who he was, why he had no emotions, no family, or anything to his name. People were afraid of him and he had no reason as to why they were.

Stem cell research has been going on controversy for generations. In the 1800’s, it was discovered that cells were able to replicate themselves. Attempts for years were made to use cells to create human life outside of the body, which led to the realization that they can also replicate red blood cells. In 1968, the first bone marrow transplant was completed to treat twins with severe immunodeficiency. In 1998, a man named Thompson created cells from the inner cell mass of embryos and developed the first embryonic stem cell lines. Around that same time, Gearhart, from Johns Hopkins University, derived germ cells from cells in gonad tissue; stem cell lines were developed from both sources. Then, in 1999 and 2000, scientists discovered that manipulating adult mouse tissues could produce different cell types. Further research has continued since then to create human body parts out of stem cells. This kind of research can lead to the same thinkings that Victor Frankenstein had in the book about creating life. With stem cell sciences continuing today, it could go as far as creating organs, brains, and even an entire human body given enough stem cells. Today you can sign up to be a bone marrow donor, they use the stem cells from your marrow to create new bone marrow for patients who need it. Perhaps someday, being an organ donor can mean you donate
