Meanwhile, North American participants are more likely to endorse individual motives, such as “pleasure stimulation” and “stress reduction”, than Chinese participants. Moreover, Chinese men care more about pleasing their partner and maintaining the relationship than Chinese women do, while there’s only small difference between North American men and women.

Keith E. Stanovich, the author of “How to Think Straight About Psychology,” explains different aspects of psychology to his readers in the first chapter of his book. He starts off by stating how Sigmund Freud is a fraud when it comes to psychology. Although Freud’s work in psychology is so little, he is the reason why many people misunderstand psychology. Then the chapter begins to talk about how psychology is composed of different topics and studies, and when there are many different topics it is difficult to link all of the topics into one. When psychology is often discussed, many people do not consider it a science.…

Untitled Research Questions: This research was conducted to investigate the different options that students undertake to make their financial costs less burdensome and more affordable while being enrolled in Undergraduate or Graduate programs at Brandeis University. Often times, students find other ways to reduce costs through optional plans, beyond what the institution has to offer and which are optional—like housing, meal plan, among other expenses. One of those options is to not live on campus and to move off campus, which usually happens to be less expensive. Nevertheless, it is difficult to know if the option is rather more popular among students who receive Pell grants, which is a subsidy that the US federal government provides to its…

Sex Specificity Difference in Sexual Arousal The research article, “A Sex Difference in the Specificity of Sexual Arousal” by Chivers, Rieger, Latty, and Bailey, attempted to address sexual arousal differences between sexes, specifically in relation to category specificity. They suggest that the non-specificity of the female sexual arousal response is among the many sex differences suggesting female and male sexuality are not opposite sides of the same coin. The functional roles of sexuality may be so different for females and males that extrapolating from one to the other makes no sense. Sexual arousal is an emotional state instigated by processing of external (visual or tactile) or internal (fantasy) sexual stimuli.…

Sexuality and Aging Jamalih Phillips Human Sexuality July 19, 2015 There is a culture-bias in today’s society, with culture telling society that sex isn’t something that older adults should be thinking of. Instead sexuality has become associated with youthful looks and vitality. More and more people tend to think that as a person ages they look and become less desirable as a sexual being. There are some older adults that may buy into this stereotype and think that they are not supposed to be sexual. It is imperative that we as a culture recognize that the aging processes are not restricted to persons past the age of 65 years old.…

A Critique on Reclaiming Your Sexual Self Through an Empirical Perspective Many theories exist in trying to explain the reason for a woman’s lack of sexual desire, with various treatments that are being studied and suggested to revive one’s sexual desire. In Reclaiming Your Sexual Self: How You Can Bring Desire Back into Your Life, Hall uses a psychosocial approach to explain why one might lose their sexual desire and how they can reclaim it on their own. The focus of this paper will be to demonstrate the lack of empirical evidence in Hall’s recommendations. Beginning with a brief summary of Hall’s recommendations, empirical studies will be presented to demonstrate why the anecdotal experiences of patients is not sufficient without scientific data. Studies will be presented to demonstrate the important of conducting empirical studies.…

Infidelity across the genders There is a significant amount of research on sex differences in jealousy, mate guarding, and responses to an act of infidelity, but there is little research focused on sex differences regarding other factors surrounding infidelity such as; what acts constitute infidelity, rates of infidelity, types of infidelity committed, and justifications for infidelity. It is important to study other factors surrounding infidelity because there are many stereotypes regarding sex differences in infidelity, but not many people look at the research behind those assumptions. First, let us define infidelity. Infidelity is the act of being unfaithful to a spouse or partner where it is assumed within the relationship that both…

The extent to which psychology meets the criteria of a science has been questioned. Critical theorists have highlighted the ways in which scientific/psychological accounts are constructed, therefore challenging the notion that these simply reflect the truth/facts. In addition the role of values and ideologies have been highlighted, further challenging the notion that psychology is objective and value free. However it has been indicated by those such as Harris that the role of personal biases and political agendas in psychology’s history may have been subject to…

Sexual satisfaction can decrease in long term relationships such as marriages or in committed relationships. This type of satisfaction is not just physical but also the feeling we are left with after we reflect on the positive and negative aspects of a sexual relationship (Byers, Delamater, & Hyde, 2015). When individuals that have been in long term relationship begin to have kids or life just gets too busy, the “flame” between the two starts to blow out and when that occurs the satisfaction of the relationship can start to decline. There is a lot of relationship advice on how to keep the flame alive, but it tends to be in a physically sexual way and not the relationship itself. Relationship satisfaction is linked to sexual satisfaction in…
