Russian Cultural Awareness Research Paper Webster defines culture as the beliefs, customs, arts, etc., of a particular society, group, place, or time, but a more in depth definition would be that it is a way of life of a group of people--the behaviors, beliefs, values, and symbols that they accept, generally without thinking about them, and that are passed along by communication and imitation from one generation to the next (Texas A&M University). There are a multitude of characteristics that can define a culture, and no two cultures are identical, though some may share similar aspects for many reasons. Some of these may be how old a culture is, the geographic region that it is located in, and even how it interacts with other cultures. The primary characteristics are that culture is shared, learnt, it is transmitted among generations, it varies from society to society, and it is dynamic. The Russian culture is very unique with many rich traditions and a long history. It is important to understand the cultures of different societies, as it allows you to better integrate into their society and build rapport. On the modern battlefield having good rapport with the local populace can be a matter of life and death. In order to better understand a culture and why it has developed into what it is, we must first take a look at its history. Getting a firm grasp on the history of Russia allows you to fathom why the people act in manners that may differ than your own. Russia…
