With a population of 142.470.272, Russia is a huge country. The main cause is because of the laws the russian government puts on LGBT groups and people. Many regions in Russia have two laws, that are considered homophobic. Law of the Ryazan Region No. 41-03 “On the Protection of Morality and Health of Children in the Ryazan Region” dated April 3rd 2006 and 2). Amendments to the Regional Code of Administrative Code. Some might say it’s unfair. Some might say it’s right. Some might say that it denies people of who they are. The “it” in this case is the problem. The “it” that has dominated Russia since the early 1600’s. The “it” is homophobia. Homophobia has been a main issue in Russia; eighty percent are against it, twenty percent are for it (themoscowtimes.com). So many protests have been held. Eight different regions in Russia are banning homophobia all together. Many are questioning the “question at hand”. Should homophobia be allowed. Many laws have been put into place in Russia. The laws ban gay propaganda. There have been attacks on gays who attend protests. The police don 't intervene because protests are against the law.
According to a research paper by Human Rights First, over the last decade, the rise of Russian Right Wing activists have led a wave of violent hate crime (Academic Article 1). When people are attacked after revealing their sexual orientation, they are attacked, and some are usually tortured. While Putin has said that attacks on LGBT are not tolerated, Russian police and officials have made no arrests (Academic Article 1). The Russian authorities rarely investigate reports regarding gender bias.
