Next day, Robert Crowe called in Richard and Nathan for interrogation and had them in custody for almost twenty-four hours without yet making a formal arrest. The investigation was changed course of the case. All clues pointed to the conclusion. Nathan’s handwriting matched ransom letter and Nathan’s glasses was found near the corpse. Nathan and Richard became prime suspects of the case with none of them confessing or asking for a lawyer. it’s been weeks since boys were taken in custody and constantly interrogating them, hoping for a confession from either one.
Richard Loeb sheds a tear and confesses that he was behind the murder of Bobby Franks, but also states that it was Nathan’s idea for the killing and he manipulated him to help him do the murder. Robert Crowe immediately talked to Nathan about the Richard’s confession. Nathan couldn’t believe at first but when Crowe opened up, Nathan was angry that Richard confessed and blamed for the murder. He starts off stating that Nathan always agreed to go along with Richard in his dangerous adventures just because he could please him and have sex with him. Richard first doubted himself but after they had sex, he got thrilled and wanting more. He concludes by saying that both Nathan and Richard were emotionally infantile. Bernard Gluek testified that Loeb had a disordered personality whereas Natahn suffered from abnormal pathological transformation of his personality. Robert Crowe brings back the seriousness in the court by presenting all the evidence against the Nathan and Richard. All the witnesses were brought in for questioning including the worker at drug store, the man who rented the car Nathan, and the person who made a bank account under fake name Morton Ballard.
