February of 2012, going on a year now in Ricker’s Island, for afro growing eighteen year old Kalief in handcuffs comes across the unthinkable. An inmate, with a bed sheet wrapped around his neck, being drag out by correction officers.

Daytime programming. He spots his older brother, Akeem Browder who works as engineer for the Depart of Corrections, and calls him out. Akeem waves but speeds away leaving Kalief once again alone.
A group of gang members bombards his moment. “The fuck is you doing bruh?”, “well then do something little ass nigga”. Kalief swings however is losing by the heavy amount of punches and kicks. Correction officer watches, with no intention of ending this madness, until backup intervenes.
Hurt and confuse, Kalief enters solitary confinement. A whole new world full of rats running around, an even more disgusting smell, dark and closterfobic. Kalief endorses starvation, head slam to the floor and basically becomes the target of humiliation in the eyes of every Correction Officer. Frequent visits from his mother Vernida Browder gives him comfort but she notices her son deteriorating. “Take the plea to escape this nightmare. Please” Vernida’s line after every visit.
Months has pass by and Kalief waits to be called upstairs for his trail. Hours has gone by and “the people are not ready”. He’s sent right back to Rickers. Frustration fuels. The pressure overwhelms him. Kalief attempts his suicide by tearing apart his bed sheets and pictures the image of the inmate from before. Correction Officers burst in and stop him. They retaliate with beating. Kalief returns to an empty cell. He slouches down in fear and now in watch.
It’s May 29th of 2013, Kalief is finally seen by Judge DiMango. She states the following “The District Attorney is really in a position right now where they cannot proceed.
