Among this week's readings, I connected the most with "'Repent, Harlequin!' Said the Ticktockman" by Harlan Ellison. I thoroughly enjoyed this work because like the members of the society portrayed, I, too, am guilty of being a "slave of the schedule. " Ellison's work is powerful, and accurately represents what it is like to live based around a certain agenda.…
Aristotle once said, “The worst form of inequality, is trying to make unequal things equal.” A major example of this concept of inequality displays itself through humans. Although people may seem similar and equal, each personality and talent differs from one another. Now one might wonder what it would be like if every single person were truly equal. This theme is developed in the short story “Harrison Bergeron” by Kurt Vonnegut, and also in the film 2081 directed by Chandler Tuttle.…

Kurt Vonnegut helps create a futuristic idea of what the world could be like, and portrays it through his dystopian short story, “Harrison Bergeron”. “The Conscience of the Court”: How Hurston Reveals Racism through Word Choice Zora Neale Hurston’s “The Conscience of the Court” explores a court case in which an African-American maid was accused of almost beating a man to death for seemingly no reason. This short story allows Laura Lee Kimble to explain her side of the story. Though she is far less educated than the people of the court, Laura Lee is able to explain the event in great detail. I believe the Author Ha Jin skillfully uses an ironic approach throughout the story titled “Saboteur.” The story took place after the Chinese Cultural Revolution, a time when all citizens were supposed to have equal rights. The protagonist, Mr. Chui was falsely accused, arrested, and forced to conform, pleading guilty to actions he didn't do. It seems that even after the revolution there still a lot of social disintegration throughout the government and police force.…
