For starters, the majority of names in the movie are based on religious aspects or figures. An example of this would be Trinity, which can be interpreted as the holy trinity and Morpheus, the leader, is the god of dreams as defined in Greek Mythology, which makes sense considering that he rescuing people like Neo from the false reality of the matrix, which shows this revelation of worlds as if it were waking up from a dream. In addition to the names the creators planted in the movie, there were also reenacted events from the bible in the movie, because it showed how cypher turned against Morpheus and the crew, much like when Judas betrayed Jesus and his disciples when he gave away their location. In addition to scenes of the bible, a grand amount of the things Morpheus said in the movie were thing that you we would here at a local church: “It’s your choice”, “I can’t make you believe, you have to do it” ,“All I can do is open the door, you’re the one who has to walk through it etcetera. Thinking back to the year 1999, the year the movie was published, there most recent form of technology then was a flip phone, now, we have phones that have zero buttons, can be activated with the sense of touch, and also be voice activated. Looking into sociology, if you saw your friend with a flip phone, you probably would make fun of them due to the lack of qualities it matches with your highly developed phone. The internet back in that time, although quicker than it was in its early stages, a vast majority of them were still codes, and there weren’t nearly as much websites and other sophisticated coding back then there are now. The whole world of technology in a general standpoint has changed dramatically from late 90’s to now. It’s hard to believe that we have gone from bulky flip phones and computers, to something that could have only been imagined in a science fiction
