The relationships a person has can have either a positive or negative effect on their live. Herman Hesse’s novel Siddhartha is about the life of a young man seeking to find happiness. Herman Hesse is telling the reader that friendships can bring happiness or sorrow into a person's life. This is shown by Siddhartha as he enters into relationships with Kamala, Govinda, and others throughout the book.
