There are several debates about raising or abolishing the minimum wage. The side that is for abolishing the minimum wage brings up information to show why raising the minimum wage will not help poor when it states, “if the federal minimum wage were increased from $7.25 an hour to $9.50 an hour (remember that the president's proposal is to increase the minimum wage to $9 per hour), only 11.3% of workers who would gain from the increase belong to poor households” (Hassett). The author uses statistical evidence to show that the increase in minimum wage won’t help poor people that much.
