However, not all of these sources are given the same esteem. Scripture is to be the primary source through which other sources are understood and applied. Though important, Scripture alone is not the basis for theological reflection. Tradition, experience, and reason assist us as we seek to make meaning of Scripture and life. Tradition includes the creeds and other monumental works that have been derived throughout history. Experience is the individual person’s experience in his or her own context, or a part of the communal experience, that is applied when one is theologically reflecting. Experience is central to our understanding of what it means to be a Christian witness in the world and to be followers of Christ.
