Question 1
In a clinical situation as the one described in the case study, transference refers to a situation where the client tries to form relationships with the therapist where they unconsciously expect them to behave like important people they have had in their lives in the past. In the interview between Mallory and Dr. Santos, there is a great extent that the behavior exemplified by Mallory is an indication of transference. She exemplifies transference by transferring some of the emotions that she is going through of being bored to Dr. Santos. The transfer happens because the client is bored with her life and work and asserts that the therapist is also bored for listening to such conversations. She does this more than three times during the session and this has the potential to affect their relationship and the ability for the doctor to come up with strategies that would address her issues (Pomerantz, 2014).

Santos was one of the aspects that made me decide that there was transference of emotions from Mallory. In the session, the behavior of the doctor indicates that there was no intention from the therapist to make the interview boring as Mallory suggests. The doctor asked open-ended questions throughout the session that were supposed to engage the client. The questions also suggest that there was no reason for Mallory not to be interested in the session and thereby this is just an issue of transference (Pomerantz, 2014).. Normally, in such a session, the doctor or therapist is supposed to have an open mind and not make assumptions about the client regardless of the mental condition that they could be suffering from at any given
