Gang violence has been spreading all around the United States since about around the nineteen-fifties. A survey taken in 2006 by Snyderand and Sickmund surveyed nine thousands adolescents between the ages of twelve and seventeen showing that eight percent said that they belonged to a gang. (Hill et al., 1999; Hill, Lui, and Hawkins, 2001) (Howell, 2010, p. 8) Without the involvement of the community trying to prevent the involvement in gangs is a difficult task to complete. The community has to come together and find out information about gangs in their community such as gang signs and colors. Find out who is involved with the gang and the name the group goes by. They should try to determine how dangerous the group is and around how many members there are in the gang. With this information, the community has gathered they should try and setup measures of prevention to help keep more of the youth from joining in gangs. The type of prevention depends on the seriousness of the crimes the gangs are committing. Preventing youth involvement in gangs is an important task that has to be taken on by the community. There are many factors that come into play when trying to determine how young people become involved with gangs. One being that most youth join gangs because of being convinced to join which is not true most of the time since they join for the protection. Still though with so many factors it is hard to find answers to this
