Scenario: Robert has been looking for work many months. He was discharged from the military for medical reasons due to serious hearing loss, and the loss of his left hand two years ago. He recently finished earning a degree and has sought to work in his desired field of working with autistic children. Everywhere he applies he gets an interview and he is thanked for his service. Despite there being severe shortage of workers for this field he never gets a job. Robert suspects but cannot confirm…? Robert suspects that there is an issue with stereotypes and that is why he cannot get hired. When he at all of the daycare companies trying to get hired to work with the autistic children he saw that the majority of the workers were good looking females. This reminded him of the primary effect, which is where people judge him before meeting him, and he realizes that from his appearance people are turning him away because he is not what they expect him to be. After having a great time in high school he is very contempt with his own social identity which involves strong family bonds. Then when he finally meets his roommates and they have a very different way of thinking then him. His parents always told him not to curse, stay away from alcohol, and to be at college to study not party. He becomes worried about if he doesn’t conform to what his new roommates are doing that he might not fit in and be an outcast in college. He decided to stick with his family’s principals and became a member of the out-group in his own dorm but luckily a new room opened up where he could move to. While he still runs into the old roommates in college his new roommates have principals like him giving him an in-group making him feel socially
