Sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me. Have you ever stopped to actually think about this phrase? Bones will break, but words… words can truly hurt. There have been too many real life traumas and too many real life incidents for anyone to support this phrase and believe in the message behind its words. Each word in the English language has a specific meaning, and many are meant to provoke emotion.

Words can mean so much from the 3 words I love you that everyone wants to hear to the 3 words that can scar you forever, I hate you. Every word has a meaning and every word will leave a lasting impression on you or someone else. Talking is a daily necessity for most, and it's very tough for people to stay silent

Looking closer to the page I found a memorial, with hundreds of names, dates and loving memories of these people who ended their lives because of constant verbal abuse. This was proof to me at how truly effective words are at ruining a person's life.

Words that are used against a person's race, intelligence, sexuality or physical appearance are used so recklessly these days that they have lost most of their meaning to the kids of this generation. But these words all have strong meaning, and are truly hurtful. Racism is an issue that has always existed, but is truly ignored by most people today. Movies, musical lyrics and many everyday conversations consist of very racist terms and though it is not recognized a lot, these sorts of words and phrases contribute to the problem of racism and the affect it has on the victims of such abuse. Anorexia and bulimia are huge issues with girls and boys of all ages and in many cases are caused by verbal abuse. Mass media, and again movies music are always in subtle ways, using catchy phrases and words are telling these people they need to weigh less, be thinner and look better. Each day teens are told they need to be smart to succeed and that school is of the up most importance, so when someone calls you stupid or an idiot, it hurts that much more. Many problems within the society have come about because of verbal abuse and name calling. But no body wants
