As the United States discovers itself trillions of dollars in debt, more individuals are ending up in poverty. With the measure of individuals who are currently inside and underneath the poverty line, it is astonishing that there is still such a variety of individuals who don 't know about poverty. Things being what they are, what is poverty and how can it happen to individuals? These are inquiries that should be tended to and clarified. With the measure of time that these points have not been tended to, it has brought on a variety of suppositions to emerge that may hurt the capacity of needy individuals to function in ordinary society. "If we look closely enough, we’ll have to conclude that poverty is not, after all, a cultural aberration or a character flaw. Poverty is a shortage of money,” (Ehrenreich 607). So in perusing the two perspectives on the poor and poverty, is there a judgment being put before broad knowledge? Are individuals assuming the worst about the poor before the poor even have an opportunity to prove themselves? She asserts that even though “some poor people lead a disorderly life, some were also hard working and some cases fiercely ambitious” (Ehrenreich 607). All in all, what is poverty? Poverty has a mixed bag of definitions depending upon whom you talk to and where they are from. Numerous people have a strict meaning of what it is while others convey the term all the more freely.
