The strengths of this essay as related to the course objective include defining the terms of poverty, hunger, and homelessness in America. Poverty means having inadequate income to provide the food, shelter, and clothing needed to preserve good health. Hunger means not knowing where your next meal will be coming from or being food insecure. Homelessness is justifiably unable to acquire, maintain regular, safe, secure, and adequate housing. Explain what it means to live below the poverty line, respectively meaning not having enough to feed and clothe a family. Identifying the essentials for a minimum standard of living in terms of food, shelter, social resources, and connections with society. Defining how does poverty affect these essentials. Essentials for food involve growing the food or purchasing food through another source like a supermarket. Essentials for shelter would incorporate a housing complex with running water, electricity and heating. Essentials for social resources and a connection with society include medical facilities, food subsidies, and government assistance. Poverty greatly affects these essentials due to primary lack of financial stability and a secure shelter. Various other strengths of my essay includes identifying the causes of hunger and poverty and how they might be connected.
