Fixing Child Homelessness in America Homelessness is an awful plague that hurts and puts a strain on the entire world. It is especially devastating to society when those who are affected by homelessness are the poor, vulnerable children. While this certainly is a global issue, it is especially disheartening that there are, according to a study conducted by America’s Youngest Outcasts, 2.5 million American youths that have experienced some kind of homelessness within 2014 (Barbara Broman, 2014). This is a far cry from the 88,966 unaccompanied homeless students counted by the department of education during the same year (National Network for Youth, 2017). These numbers are indeed staggering especially considering how prosperous and advanced America has become, but addressing the problem through awareness of statistics does nothing to save these children except raise awareness.
