Many people want to help the people less fortunate than themselves, however most people do not know what to do to help, or where to start. The start is simply understanding poverty. Poverty is not something that one chooses and sometimes it is not a person 's fault. It can be due to: the friends you hang around with, where you live or the environment, and the negative results to the actions that you have previously committed, or even that your company lost money and were forced to lay people off, and you happened to be one of them. There is an old famous saying that describes poverty perfectly, “ if you give a man a fish, he eats for a day. If you teach a man to fish, he eats for a lifetime.” We can take this old time saying and put it in today 's terminology, by simply giving the lower class money and handouts, you are not helping them break the cycle. The lower class will not be able to survive this way unless they have handouts every day, taking our hard earned money. However if you teach the lower class the way to succeed in society today, you are helping them create a balanced life and be stable enough to support themselves and their own family. We cannot give the poor money whenever they need it, we must turn to other ways to cure poverty like education, support, and
