Poverty. A terrible twist in fate? An unlucky roll of the dice? Poverty is an illness with no cure. Poverty is losing your job and not being able to recover from it. Poverty is having no family to be able to support you. Poverty today is a problem that is affecting many countries worldwide, it is invisible to the human eye. Less fortunate people do not have a say for much in the country, their viewpoints tend to be overlooked.. In America today the poverty level is 15.1%, poverty is a vicious never ending cycle that consumes thousands of lost souls every year. There is no known cure to poverty. Benjamin Franklin once said, “I am for doing good to the poor, but I differ in opinion about the means. I think the best way of doing good to the poor

Many people want to help the people less fortunate than themselves, however most people do not know what to do to help, or where to start. The start is simply understanding poverty. Poverty is not something that one chooses and sometimes it is not a person 's fault. It can be due to: the friends you hang around with, where you live or the environment, and the negative results to the actions that you have previously committed, or even that your company lost money and were forced to lay people off, and you happened to be one of them. There is an old famous saying that describes poverty perfectly, “ if you give a man a fish, he eats for a day. If you teach a man to fish, he eats for a lifetime.” We can take this old time saying and put it in today 's terminology, by simply giving the lower class money and handouts, you are not helping them break the cycle. The lower class will not be able to survive this way unless they have handouts every day, taking our hard earned money. However if you teach the lower class the way to succeed in society today, you are helping them create a balanced life and be stable enough to support themselves and their own family. We cannot give the poor money whenever they need it, we must turn to other ways to cure poverty like education, support, and
