People like to feel the appreciation for the work they do, but sometimes employers do not treat all employees equally. The word institutionalized discrimination comes to mind when thinking about discrimination within the workforce. Institutionalized discrimination can be described as “a denial of opportunities and equal rights to individuals and groups that results from the normal operation of society.” As explained by McIntyre “institutional discrimination is ‘built into’ the usual operations of society.” (McIntyre, p. 248, 2014). This clearly proves that discrimination explains that discrimination can be seen within the workforce. This causes friction and possibly termination of one’s job. Not many people are going to stay where they are unhappy. So, if an individual holds a job but is treated dissatisfactory, they may not be able to handle it then when they quit they may not have another job to go to. This causes a total plummet in their income. Therefore, the bills that were once easy or affordable to make are now outrageous as is making ends meet for other necessities. With the buildup of bills and other expenses and lack of income coming in a person will run out of money fairly quickly resulting in poverty or a poor economic status. The “culture of poverty” definitely continues to cause poverty and can basically be summarized as the explanations that cause poverty. As alluded to before, poverty is just basically a never-ending circle. Once a family is in poverty it is exponentially difficult to be able to climb out of poverty. The “culture of poverty” is similar to a well, once someone falls in, it is hard for them to climb back out.
