Beowulf is a hero to many people especially to his people and follows in his father’s footsteps. He was the son of Edgetho’s in both the movie and poem. In the movie he did announce that he is the son of Edgetho and in the poem said “Beowulf, you’ve come to us in friendship, and because of the reception your father found at court. Edgetho had…” on page 38-39 lines 191-193. Also in the poem Beowulf “Caught her in the neck and cut it through, broke bones and all. The Beowulf poem and movie both have a comparison of Beowulf being the son of Edgetho, the Geats and Danes being warriors, and Grendel living under in the darkness. Also there were a little differences between the poem and movie with Beowulf killing Grendel’s mother but giving her a baby, when in the poem he killed her, the Geats and Danes were sleeping in the poem while Grendel attacked but in the movie they were drinking and making noise, even Grendel who was the son of cain in the book but the son of Hrothgar in the poem. As I read the story I wonder how the hero was perceived back then. Obviously, that perception has changed as we are in 2017, so… what does the modern day hero look
