Mahira is fifteen year old girl, the elder of the two children of our family friends, Atta and his wife Mishi. Mahira is a sixth grader and goes to the same school with her younger brother Mehroz who is thirteen year old. Mahira lives at home with her parents and paternal grandmother. Atta, her father, is a professor of Physics at a local community college. Mahira’s mother is a housewife and spends most of her time in doing domestic chores and attending to her children. Our family and theirs call on each other every now and then. This paper focuses on Mahira’s physical, cognitive and socioemotional development, and discusses certain aspects affecting her personal growth. Physical Development

She has grown more demanding in terms of her dressing and spends good deal of time dealing with her hair style and looks. Taking selfies and putting them on her facebook page is now a pleasurable activity with her. The comments and likes on facebook mean much to her and the course of her moods change from joy to irritation while responding to these comments. Her mother also often complains of her moodiness. On the whole Mahira is enjoying a healthy lifestyle.
Cognitive Development At eleven, during her concrete-operational stage, Mahira used to get help with her speeches and debates from her mother but later on entering the formal-operational period, she developed a habit of carefully observing different scenarios and wrote most of the material of her speeches and debates herself. According to the book, she was ‘able to think hypothetically and reason abstractly’ (158). She improved her reading skills to a considerable extent and scored high marks in her academic assignments. She often got into disagreements over different issues with her mother and showed her good amount of discernment and capacity
