God did not have a physical body that makes Him able to laugh at their foolishness physically. This imagery expresses the feedback from God that He is not offended by what they did. Another imagery is the phrase “you will dash them to pieces of pottery (2:9).” The phrase “dash them to pieces” here did not mean the action of physically breaking their body into pieces, but it is talking about how broken their condition would be if they are still stubborn and stood against the Lord and his Anointed One. Instead, their situation will become like a pottery that has been broken into pieces and it could not be repaired anymore. Other verses that mentioned about the reason on why the King that will rule over them will end the rebellions of man were seen in verse 2:7-9, where the Word says “I will declare the decree: The Lord has said to Me, ”You are my Son, Today I have begotten You. Ask of Me, and I will give You The nations for Your inheritance, And the ends of the earth for Your possession…” This one stanza brings the affirmation from God about how powerful this King will rule because God has given the nations as His inheritance, the ends of the earth as His possession and He will rule them with full
