Beginning as peaceful protests and ending with a new country. America has a rich tradition of protest and civil disobedience, in fact it was founded on it. For years beginning in the middle 1700’s, citizens of the colonies peacefully protested. Our founding fathers began as protesters, they knew they’re rights were being stepped on and they decided to do something about it. Yet our country was still not perfect, people’s rights were still being beaten into submission, many of our founding fathers owned slaves. The destruction of the civil rights of African Americans has been terrifyingly rampant for much of U.S.’s timeline. It wasn’t till the twentieth century, nearly three centuries after the country was founded, that serious change started to occur with the civil rights movement. “No one is free until we are all free,” was said by Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. patriarch of the civil rights movement and famous supporter of peaceful protest. The civil rights movement led to a freer world, to the removal of segregation and to a shift towards the dream of equality that this was country was founded on. Yet our country was still not perfect, racism is still rampant, protests over our leaders have again begun. If we want a brighter future we must act, if we want it to shine we must bring the shine with
