Both main characters, Icarus and Phaethon, are both prideful. For example, in the story Phaethon, it says, “ They would be so proud. And Epaphus - After all Epaphus - how will he know.”(pg 53). Phaethon feels like Epaphus needs to know that he rode it. He was prideful and rode too close to the earth. His pride won him over leading to his consequence. In Daedalus & Icarus it says, “ As he fell his father's words came back “don't fly too close to the sun”(pg 62). After his father told him to fly close to the sun, he said that he wanted to fly higher than the sun. He was very prideful until his wings melted.
