A heart can only take so much. Pain and suffering is what Ophelia goes through. In the play, Hamlet, by William Shakespeare, Ophelia is shattered into a million pieces. She is shattered by the people around her. Her loved one, Hamlet, her family and friends. She experiences love and betrayal. It sinks into the heart and suicide runs through her mind.She who wants happiness and love, but her life ends in tragedy. Ophelia is loving and innocent. Ophelia is loved by everyone, “I loved Ophelia. Forty thousand brothers could not win all their quantity love...” (Hamlet: I. i. 285). She is a trusting person. She is a young and beautiful lady who shows love and cares too much for people who are not worth it. She obeys rules, “Tis in my memory locked, and you yourself shall keep the key of it.” (I. iii. 92). She promises to save her virginity and not give it up to her loved one, Hamlet. However, without love or Hamlet, Ophelia is nothing. “I shall th’ effect of this good lesson keep as watchman to my heart” (I. iii. 50 ). Hamlet denies that he loves Ophelia. This makes her think that is she worth nothing in this world without her love Hamlet.
