Murder is associated with the people who commit it so they can achieve a goal of some sort. Whether it be revenge, power, or glory the ideas behind these murders of for their own personal gain. However, the reason for murder is not for personal greed but the lack of something within themselves. Claudius doesn’t murder for power but murders to remove the constant comparison between him and his brother and to prove that he is the better than how others view him. Hamlet goes through with the plan to murder Claudius not out of revenge but as a way to deal with all the built in stress. Claudius is viewed as a being less than his brother. Hamlet his own relative views him as, “a mildewed ear Blasting his wholesome brother.” Everyone even his own family views his brother as an, “assurance of a man”. By being viewed as inferior Claudius never has the chance to prove what he wants. By killing his brother he gains an opportunity to prove that he isn’t inferior filling the void that is inside of him. After finishing off his brother he goes to prove himself. Rather than using his power just to get whatever he wants he goes on to become a great king. He settles matters within the country quickly and keeps the people happy with his new position. Since so many people can now view him as a good person the void within his heart begins to fill as he is no longer standing underneath his brothers shadow. Claudius wished to prove himself and the only way he could possibly doing so was by eliminating his brother. No sign of power was desired as he never tried to use his power to obtain anything absurd. However, Claudius did use all his resources to be a great father. He knew Hamlet was in trouble and decided prove himself as a great father to Hamlet. He sent many people out to see what was wrong with his son and even gave him comfort about his dad’s death.
