Thise book focuses on the lifeves of an eleven year old girl, name India “Opal” Buloni, the protagonist, and her companionship with her dog,dog name Winn-Dixie. Opal recallerecallsd her experience onf the summer her life changed because of the dog she adopts. her adopted dog. InIn the beginning of the first chapter, we are introduced to the relationship of Opal and her father, whom she usually refers to as "the preacher." Her mother abandoned the family when Opal was three years old and which is often left Opal unaccompanied in her trailer park since as her father preached in Open Arms Baptist Church of Naomi. She yearnedwants to know more about concerning her mother, buthowever her father the preacher would not tell her.
Opal was at the Winn-Dixie grocery store ands the stray dog wandered in causing to it and caused commotion for the employees. She pitied for the dog and decided to bring him home.
