In America, obesity is more common than one may expect. In America, more than 78.6 million of adults are obese. In America, the estimated annual medical bill for an obese patient was $147 billion; that was $1,429 higher than the citizens who are not obese. The nationality with the highest rate of obesity is African Americans at 47.8%, next is Hispanics at 42.5%, then Caucasians or Whites at 32.6%, and lastly Asians at 10.9%. Obesity occurs frequently among middle age adults than younger adults and adults 60 and above. As well, obesity is prone to occur frequently in those who have higher incomes than those who have low income. The certain conditions that an obese person has include heart disease, stroke, type two diabetes and certain types of cancer(cdc.org). The reason why people are actually obese is by having too much body fat. To measure if someone is obese or not is by the body mass index, or BMI, the most commonly used measure of weight status today. As in adults, obesity is a growing nuisance for children and adolescents. Obesity is a growing nuisance for children and adolescents because children grow at different rates depending on their age and gender. Obesity in children and adolescents is defined differently from obesity in adults.
