The reasoning behind this is those in the white middle and/or upper middle class families have a large emphasis on their appearance, achievements and body weight (“Harvard Women’s Health Watch”). Many people are unaware of what an eating disorder is at this day in time and if they do, they do not know how negatively they can affect people’s health. Eating disorders can cause, low blood pressure, slow heart rate; irregular heart rhythm, brain abnormalities, and many other health conditions (Teo). After this list of health problems was read to Wayne Central health teacher Tim Mattle, he stated; “It’s terrible that people don’t know how much an eating disorder affects a person, it leads to very poor health and can potentially lead to death.”. It is important to sit whomever is dealing with the eating disorder down, confront them very directly and do not beat around the bush what so ever (Mattle). There are various places in which professional help can be found, something as simple as a therapist can make the biggest difference with the situation. Psychotherapy is said to be the best therapy, through this process the victim speaks of their situation including their personal feelings while hearing the feelings of how others affected.
