Niagara Falls has a unique history that affects how it is today. About 12,000 years ago Niagara Falls formed after the Ice Age. The force of the melting ice went over the Niagara Escarpment and eroded many rock layers to form modern Niagara Falls. The water that now flows over Niagara comes from the Great Lakes which formed during the Ice Age. Niagara Falls remained a mystery for several years until Louis Hennepin, a French priest and LaSalle, an explorer, went on an expedition . They found this huge waterfall in 1678 and were the first eyewitness accounts. After the discovery of this waterfall, it attracted many daredevils from around the world.
