The Modern Life
There are many different ways that people might describe a modern life in America. The three biggest are to be hard work and provide for your family, to spend time with your family and got out and do things as a family, and to leave a name for yourself and accomplish something that you will be remembered by. These are the things that people strive to do most and work their hardest to accomplish.
It is to the point and time in this world that women work about the same amount as men. Both men and women work a pretty equal amount to provide for their families. Families tend to like to travel, and go camping, and sometimes even just go out and have dinner together. There are many different activities that families enjoy doing together, for example, “So they began to hold their dances night after night in the quarters, usually behind Tea Cakes house” (Hurston 146). In Their Eyes Were Watching God Janie and Tea Cake are a pretty new couple that still did stuff together as a family. People tend to think that spending time with family is over rated and is a waste of time and waste of money while others may want to do nothing other and spending time with family. In The Great Gatsby it shows how even if you haven’t seen your family in a long time you still want to spend time with them, “Before I could reply that he was my neighbor dinner was announced” (Fitzgerald 11). Even though this is such a simple quote just explaining that dinner is starting, it still does prove that family enjoy spending time with each other even if it’s distant family. Some people try to become rich and be known for it, even if they are humble enough to not flaunt it off. In The Great Gatsby, Jay Gatsby is known by everyone for being the wealthiest man alive, for having the most extravagant parties every night, “In his blue gardens men and girls came and went like moths among the whisperings and the champagne and the stars” (Fitzgerald 39). People may think that this a selfish way to be know, but there are other ways to be know. Gatzby is also know as a war hero, “‘I was in the Seventh Infantry until June nineteen- eighteen” (Fitzgerald 47). There are many ways to be remembered in this world whether it’s by the whole world or just a couple people, just hopefully it’s not in a bad
