Martin Luther King Jr left a legacy of peace and equality and inspired billions to do the same. He was an American Baptist minister and activist who lead in the Civil Rights Movement. Without him, the world would be very different today.

Martin Luther King Jr. was born on Tuesday, January 15, 1929 at the family home in Atlanta, Georgia. He lived with his parents, Reverend Martin Luther King Sr. and Alberta Williams King, as well as his grandparents and his two siblings, Christine and Alfred Daniel Williams King. King grew up under the strong influence of the church and his family tradition of independence. His family believed in nonviolent resistance to racial discrimination. King was asked to be the leader of the group because he was young and new in town so he didn’t have many enemies that would try and go against him. “In his first speech as the group's president, King declared, "We have no alternative but to protest. For many years we have shown an amazing patience. We have sometimes given our white brothers the feeling that we liked the way we were being treated. But we come here tonight to be saved from that patience that makes us patient with anything less than freedom and justice”, Biography explains. King and his group made an impact in the struggling Civil Rights Movement in the South. During the bus boycott, (which lasted 382 days,) they faced harassment, violence, and intimidation from their white community every single day. King’s home was attacked. But finally one day, the city of Montgomery removed the law that segregated public transportation. He later delivered his famous, “I have a dream” speech in front of millions.

Martin Luther King Jr made a difference to billions of people, black and white. By using nonviolent approaches and showing others to not fire with fire, he changed history forever and gave others hope in themselves. I think of him as a revolutionary figure because not only did he change the lives of african americans then and for years to come, but he gave a voice to those who couldn’t speak for themselves, and inspired others to do the
