MSD Essay William Shakespeare’s play, A Midsummer Nights Dream, is a romantic love story that involves four main couples on a crazy journey of falling in love that happens all in one night. Hermia is in love with Lysander, a man who her father does not approve of. They know what they cannot get married in Athens, so they decide to run aways together. Hermia loves Lysander more than anything and all she wants to do is marry him. Hermia says, “Love looks not with the eyes but with the mind; And therefore is winged Cupid painted blind”(Act 1,sc 1,240-241). He might not have had a real love story for himself. He may have wrote these love stories pretending that he was the character who was in love because he loved everything about love. In A Midsummers Night Dream there are fairies that cast spells over the humans. There is one fairy that messes with the humans, his name is Puck. He casts the love potion over all the lovers and they all fall in love with the wrong person. He could be considered a mischievous Cupid who controls who is in love with who. He is like Cupid in a sense because he is in control of love. He can control what happens between the four lovers. He can play tricks on them and change who loves who. He fixed all the mess he made and everyone fall back in love with the right person. He is a Cupid because Cupid casts spells on people to fall in love and that is exactly what Puck does in the play. This quote is a main quote in this play. Most of this play revolves around this quote and the main plot is based on it. It is a good way to summarize the entire play. Most of Shakespeare is very hard to understand but when Hermia says this quote it is something that is very easy to relate to and to
