Mental Health and Psychology Mental health is a worldwide issue. High Plains Mental Health Center is a licensed community mental health center focused on dealing with mental health and the aspects of the illnesses that affect the states of mind. Six in ten women and four in ten men suffer from a mental illness at some point during their lifetime. Although they do not know if the men statistics are 100% correct because men tend to hide their emotions more than women do. Ages ten through twenty-nine are the most affected by a mental health problem. Mood disorders such as depression are the third most common cause of hospitalization in the U.S. for both youth and for adults. Ages eighteen to forty-four (nami.org).
One in seventeen adults−approximately 13.6 million Americans−experience a serious mental illness in a given year. Such as, schizophrenia, major depression or bipolar disorder. 90% of those who die by suicide have an underlying mental illness. Suicide is the 10th leading cause of death in the U.S. (nami.org). Illnesses relating to mental health are one of the top five reasons why people are losing their lives. Sadly, mental health illnesses continue to grow higher on the board of why people are dying. High Plains’ goal when they meet with you for the first time is “both to diagnose and to start you on a pathway to recovery” (highplainsmentalhealth.com).
