The theory states that crime occurs within these individuals due to side effects of mental illness or disorders. The criminals involved in these offences are usually experiencing some sort of psychotic or neurotic behaviour. The offenders mentioned in the article usually were suffering through mental illness and also facing troubles from their past which caused them to commit the crimes they did. On the other hand, the classical theory states that there are 3 different categories of crime: 1) against the state, 2) against property of individuals, 3) against peace. The theory also states that crime is chosen after having a cost-benefit analysis and if there were no victims there would be no crime. The criminals according to the classical theory posses the same attributes as normal individuals. However, the rational theory states that criminals are offenders who commit crime after determining that the pay out is bigger compared to a day to day job. The criminals sometimes also believe that they don’t have a choice except to commit the crime.
