How to replace or borrow PPE.
The employees of the Nebraska National Forest & Grasslands (NNFG) shall use proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in conjunction with Engineering and/or Administrative controls; combined with safe work practices, to protect themselves from occupational hazards.
The need for the use of PPE shall be determined by three means. 1.) As indicated in the Safety Data Sheet (SDS). 2.) The supervisor or any other employee that identifies hazards associated with specific tasks and/or 3.) As required by the FSH 6709.11 Safety and Health Handbook, Interagency Standards for Fire and Fire Aviation Operations, or any other Forest Service Handbook or Manual that is policy based. The identified needs for PPE shall be documented through the Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) process. On pages 5-7 there is a PPE hazard assessment that is recommended to assist with the proper identification of PPE and evaluation of hazards to be placed in the JHA.
NNF&G shall provide all required Personal Protective Equipment to employees at no charge, with the exceptions specified by OSHA (1910.132(h)(2) through (h)(6).
Employees must demonstrate an understanding of the training and the ability to use the PPE properly before they are allowed to perform work requiring the use of the equipment.
