Chapter 1 – Life on the Mississippi
When reading chapter 1 it was very interesting and sad. East St. Louis was one of the most distressed cities. There was a lot of fetal death, crime and drugs. East St. Louis did not have any obstetric service. Many blacks where sick and didn’t have the greatest living environment. Since the children living was bad, they also got the worst education also. With Fairview Heights being almost a neighbor community to East St. Louis they weren’t bother with the problems of East St. Louis. Fairview heights was predominately white.
