Liberty, from the perspective of the masses, is the most sought out facet within any governing body. The United States of America takes pride in this allocation of freedom for the people. Founding father, Thomas Jefferson, essentially a pioneer for freedom, aided in revolutionizing society’s monarchical norm by authoring the Declaration of Independence. In essence, The Declaration of Independence liberates the individual and in the process grants the god-given right of “Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness.” According to Jefferson, Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness are vital for any functional governing body. While Jefferson’s words inspired modern day federal laws that dictate freedom within the United States of America, these ordinances are not being governed and enforced properly. Nowadays, the law is a selective privilege that favors only a small fraction of society, and in turn, encourages the mistreatment of the minority due to racial profiling.
One of the biggest issues in society has been the horrifying treatment by the police force when it comes to minorities. There have been many instances where an individual of color has been stopped and frisked by the police force for no reason. This controversy has been a growing factor in the state of New York. Many have complained about how it is violating their constitutional rights.
