Title- Discuss the history of the Le Corsaire ballet including political, social, and other important influences.
In this essay, I will be talking about the history of Le Corsaire and the impacts it has had on the world or ballet world. I will be relating these points to social and political influences, and any other factors that could have impacted its growth or development as a ballet.
Le Corsaire is a ballet presented in three acts, which was originally choreographed by Joseph Mazillier to the music composed by Adolphe Adam. Joseph Mazillier was a French dancer, ballet master and choreographer. It was first performed by the ballet of the Theatre Imperial de l’Opera in Paris on 23rd January 1856.

It is a story that explores many interesting themes including love, betrayal, loyalty, and tragedy. It explores a number of themes that were explored throughout the story of Le Corsaire; love is a large one as Conrad and Medora were the main two characters and the purpose of the journey that the story is about is because Conrad is in love with Medora and is trying to find her. Betrayal is also considered when thinking about the Pirates stealing from Pasha’s palace, with Conrad and Birbanto, and when they pretend to be pilgrims. This performance was created especially for the benefit performance of the Prima Ballerina assoluta of the St. Petersburg Imperial Theatres, Pierina Legani. She was born on the 30th of September 1868 and died on the 15th of November 1930; she was an Italian ballerina considered to be one of the greatest ballerinas of all time.
