1. Conrad really intrigues me, he can be outgoing and happy. He can also be depressed and just wanting to hide from the world. There are many events in the story where Conrad takes an interest in things such as a new girlfriend or wanting to rejoin the swim team. There are also times when Conrad has completely lost interest in things like when he decides to quit the swim team and when he does not take interest in getting help from Dr. Berger. One part that really made me smile about Conrad was when he came home from school, and announced that he got an A on his trigonometry quiz. This made me think that the book was on the positive side. I looked at this as Conrad getting back on track and as a result it was. He had a couple hiccups on the …show more content…
Calvin is the type of person that can care slightly too much. With that being said, that is not a bad thing. You would rather care too much than care too little like Beth. Calvin when he saw something could be going wrong, asked Conrad what was going on and if they needed to do something about it. Calvin was motivated unlike Beth to make his life better. When his son died he did not just sit and pout about it. When he saw Conrad was going through some tough times he took action, set up Dr. Berger which ultimately may have saved Conrad. In the part of the story I mentioned about Conrad when Conrad got an A on his trig quiz, Calvin may have overreacted. His overreaction was in a positive manner though. He seemed to be so proud of Conrad which was really nice to …show more content…
I think that these reasons are good reasons to ban the book but I also feel that it should not be banned. This book can open up a teen’s eyes to the world around them. People that seem ok can be struggling and this book teaches that you should not just go into denial like Beth, but you should be more like Calvin and take action when someone is down in the dumps. The profanity in the story I also believe is a positive. Profanity can be another way for teens to express themselves and let everything out. This novel can teach teens it can help to swear a little to let out some of the pain. I think the sexual interactions in this book are a positive addition because like I said it opens a teen to the real world and in the real world these types of sexual encounters can happen. They happen in every school nationwide so why not express to a teen what these encounters can be

I had said that the minimum or the max would have been okay, yet I wanted to max them out. I told Ralph that the torture for the e-s will be so severe that I Am fine with the minimum even, however. Ralph did not really understand what all I meant at the time, yet he had to listen to things for a long time. He also discussed such matters and had to weigh several things just like anyone who is a sane judge would have to do if they were in such a circumstance. Heaven had joked at one point and shouted at the Rev Tree such as haven't you maxed out the turd yet?…

    1. “Because I was privy to the griefs of wild, unknown men. Most of the confidences were unsought- frequently I have feigned sleep, preoccupation, or a hostile levity when I realized by some unmistakable sign that an intimate revelation was quivering on the horizon.” (pg 1) When I first read this quote I thought that maybe Nick was just talking about some random men that he had met during his time in Long Island, but now I realize one of these “wild” men must have been Gatsby.…

I chose this passage because I believe that this shows a turning point for the main characters realizing what effect the euphio can have. The first thing I noticed about this passage was the confidence, Fred had about turning off the device if something goes wrong. The second thing I noticed was the sleep like state that the characters fall into. These contradict each other because Fred believes that he’ll be conscious enough to have the ability to stop the machine the moment the euphio turns on, you can see this is not possible. The mood in this passage creates a sense of forbearing that the reader can feel that something is going to happen; even though the characters all believe that everything is going to be okay.…

I chose to create a journal that Gatsby wrote before the events of the book. This journal took place during Gatsby’s time on the frontlines of the war. I chose this because I wanted to portray Gatsby in his younger and more honest days as a soldier during the war. This narrative would be in first person through Gatsby’s eyes and I have chosen to write as Gatsby in this period of his life because I felt that I would be able to portray him more accurately in this riotous period, I feel that he may have been a different person before all the money and corruption arrives. The key theme in this text is the innocence and naive in Gatsby’s younger days.…

The past and the present can often be at a constant struggle within individuals and lead to moral confusion and conflict with each other. As the past teaches one thing and the present another, the concept of right or wrong is broken and the idea that both must be embraced is not realized. The novel, The Great Gatsby, by F.Scott Fitzgerald, utilizes numerous elements and literary devices to portray many different themes and topics. Using these, he portrays the struggle between the past and the present. Specifically, Fitzgerald utilizes foreshadow to show us that certain events or conversations hold deeper meaning, relating a future event to a characters past and their struggle through their decisions.…

The major conflict that takes place throughout The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald is Mr. Gatsby himself trying to win over the love of his life Daisy Buchanan, even though she is married herself and he lets nothing get in his way of that. To start off, Gatsby buys an extremely lavish mansion in West Egg, that is directly located across the bay of Daisy 's home, in East Egg. While Nick himself lives next door to Gatsby, once he arrives back into town for the summer, he goes to East Egg to visit his cousin Daisy and meets her friend Jordan Baker. Jordan remarks that Nick must know Gatsby, while Daisy states, “Gatsby, what Gatsby?” (Fitzgerald 11).…
