LGBT CIVIL RIGHTS In the recent years things have became widely accepted across this country and being homosexual is one of them. Now in the past it was looked down upon always and is still looked down by some people today. Though this has changed vastly with more people accepting people as who they are then just based of their sexuality.…
The right to marry might seem trivial to some, but for those who have never been able too, it is an amazing feeling. Although not everyone feels so positively about it, those individuals are not in great company at least that is what the research suggests. That is not to say that these individuals and entities are not causing problems for those trying to enjoy the right. The most notable are the clerks in Kentucky refusing to issue licenses and the courts in Arkansas upholding poor legislation to attack homosexual couples. Overall, this case decision has set the stage for equal protection and treatment for the LGBT…
Many Americans are struggling with new laws that have been created to protect the LGBTQ community. In recent years, many states have passed the law for same sex marriage. As well as laws to protect transgenders from discrimination. Regardless of the new laws, the LGBTQ community continues to fight for equality.…
Although these bills may seem to effect a small percentage of our community, the larger implications of discrimination are on the for front and we must protect these rights at all cost. Not only is the rights of the LGBT being challenged but the rights of all Americans as well. It is an unfair practice and should not be allowed by the “People” who elected these state officials.…

Freedom of Religion has been a topic of great debate in America, beginning with the settlers seeking religious freedom. Away from the British governments grasp in the New World the colonists were free to worship as they chose. In 1720 there was a decline in spirituality and the religious community was beginning to grow in diversity. Fifty years later, in 1770 the First Great Awakening occurred, opening discussion between the different religious sects. Religion reawakened and freedom of religion became more important as a natural right.…

Religion could be found in every corner of the world. It dictates what we eat, how we look, what we do or don’t do, and the morals we believe. For a lot of us religion is a big part of our lives and this could be seen in our government. Since the birth of the United States, religion has played a big part in our society, lawmaking, and culture. The U.S is a Christian based country and its morals have dictated a lot of laws.…
Over the past few decades, the movement for gay rights has been flourishing across the United States. From the first state legalization of same-sex marriage in Massachusetts in 2004, to the law protecting LGBTA rights in the workplace in 2007 (AGRM Timeline, Infoplease), the LGBTA community has finally began to get the basic rights and liberties they deserve. However, there are still many areas where their rights are lacking and inadequate. In many states across the country, the parental rights of LGBTA individuals are very limited.…
The federal Religious Freedom Restoration Act of 1993 is an example of something that had a good intended purpose but ended up doing more harm than good. Since 1993 many states have passed construed versions of the Religious Freedom Act that often serves as a form of legal discrimination. The intended purpose of the RFRA was to protect individual’s religious freedom. However, the act now allows discrimination in the name of freedom by allowing people to deny services to others based on religious beliefs.…
On June 26, 2015, LBGT+ activist groups rejoiced as the United States Supreme Court ruled in favor of legalizing same-sex marriage believing that a ban of it violated the 14th amendment of the Constitution. This didn’t help stop any hatred of same-sex couples and it seemed that the world would implode due to the court’s decision However, backlash soon followed, leading to an Appeals court, saying it didn’t violate the 14th amendment and many “Christian” groups saying the ruling by the Supreme Court goes against the bible. In the case of Obergefell vs. Hodges, the ruling has influenced the United States to take steps in a more progressive future where everyone has equal rights and helping America begin its transition into a more positive light with supporting this decision. Much of the backlash from this decision was due to these different “Christian” activist groups who said that same-sex marriage went against their religious liberties and violated the bible in Leviticus. Which is quite hilarious as none of them probably adhere to the teaching in the book of Leviticus like no eating shellfish and no mixing different materials to wear like a cotton, polyester blend…
Much has changed in society in the last two centuries in the United States. Issues of right that were not recognized in 1787 are now at the forefront of United State’s politics. It is inconceivable to consider that the same people who were capable of writing the constitution, did for foresee the need for the judicial bodies to fill the gaps that are not explicitly covered in the constitution. The more specific the stipulation, the greater the risk that the stipulation becomes obsolete. General guidelines generate the need for interpretation, which allows them to be applied in such a way that the greater good can be served.…
Religious freedom did not exist in British North American colonies prior to the eighteenth century. The puritans accepted fellow puritans, but anyone else was unwelcome. Religious freedom is the right to choose any religion without interference amongst anyone. Although the Puritans were escaping their own religious persecution, they were not making it easy on others. The idea of colonists accepting other people of different beliefs into their community was uncommon in the eighteenth century.…
